The American Branch
We have very few McWalter photographs.
This is one of the earliest and, though it is not direct line, it has significance.
The lady is May McWalter's younger sister Catherine who married Charles Gentles in New York.
She is shown here with her youngest son Herbert Silander Gentles, who was born in Scotland in 1919, but later emigrated to the USA.

The older lady is May Silander (nee Marion Howie McWalter),
with a cousin, I think, and her future daughter-in-law.
Probably about 1928 or 1929.
Probably late 1930s
May Silander with Claire and Jim in Eastbourne.
May moved to the London area when her husband died in 1931 and
probably lived with Jim and Claire at first.
In the 1950s
May eventually lived with Hal and Shirley and family in Reading.
