They seem to have originated in Ireland, but I have only got back to Thomas, a weaver in Dundee in the 1840s and 1850s. He and family moved to Wigtownshire, and then to Galston, Ayrshire.
His son Thomas worked as a coal miner for most of his life, first in Ayrshire (Galston, Muirkirk and Newmilns) and latterly in Hamilton, Lanarkshire in the 1880s.
His daughter May (Marion) married the immigrant Swede Herbert Georg Andersson Silander in 1898. May's ancestors include Hutchison, Shinnan and Howie.
