Note
On Agnes Swan and John Cargill's headstone it says he drowned off Aden in 1856, he was a pilot and white fisher. However, he was actually drowned 3 miles off the mouth of the River Eden, his fishing boat overturned, another John Cargill was drowned inthe same incident, he was the thirty year old son of Francis Cargill and Helen Watt.
John and Agnes were born in Auchmithie and their son John was born in Auchmithie but they had moved to Arbroath by the 1841 census. The gravestone was erected by one of their children, possibly John Cargill as a Margaret Cargill is mentioned in the inscription, John Cargill was married to a Margaret Cargill who died in 1905
