Note

David Spink was one of three brothers who died at sea on 13th June 1814, his brother-in-law Thomas Eaton also died. They left four widows and 24 children.
From the monument inscription in St. Vigean's Kirkyard:
Here is interred the mortal part of DAVID SPINK late seaman at Auchmithie who died at sea on the 13th day of June 1814 aged 40 years when his two brothers JAMES and JOHN and brother in law THOMAS EATON who accompanied him in the boat, also lost their lives. His relick JANE SMITH erected this stone as a humble tribute to the memory of a loving husband and an affectionate father of a family. They had seven children DAVID, JAMES, PETER, JANE, HENRY, WILLIAM and SAMUEL. SAMUEL died on the 19th January 1815the rest survived that date. JANE SMITH the erector of this stone died on the 24th June 1848 aged 72 years.
